Essentially Essential Oils

Hey you guys!  I always get two questions over and over and so I thought I should write this out and share it with you all!

·      What are essential oils and do they really work?

·      Which oils do you use everyday?

First off, I thought I would start out by sharing some of my own oily journey with you, hope that’s ok!  I started using oils last April (a year ago already!?) after doing a ton of my own research on quality, purity, effectiveness, etc… you name it, I researched it. One thing that has always been important to me is what I’m bringing into my household.  I wanted the best of the best and I found that was Young Living. I signed up and waited ever so patiently for my starter kit to arrive. ;)

When my kit came in the mail I broke it open right away and read the informational material, hooked up my diffuser and got to oilin’! I knew a few things to do with the oils, I loved lavender of course and lemon in my water and started using lemon, lavender and peppermint in the diffuser for some seasonal respiratory support.  But, I wasn’t sure what else I could use all these amazing plant oils for! Our team has been a phenomenal online resource and community and many other oilers were suggesting that newbies grab a desk reference guide for essential oils, so I did.  And I learned a ton.  While I loved the idea of EOs and natural support for my immune system at that time I didn’t realize how vast of a range of things they could help with.

Pre- oily life |  ICU + NICU

If you know me personally, you know that we had our sweet baby boy six weeks early in 2015, he’ll be two in May! I had several health complications including a sudden onset of severe preeclampsia that was unable to be controlled by doctors in the ICU, even with copious amounts of medications. The doctor told me that if they did not interfere and deliver the baby that I would have a heart attack or stroke. At the time I was working a more than full time job in retail, my 23 month old daughter was at the appointment with me and my husband left work (and was in the last few week of his MBA program) to rush to my side as I was told I was being transported by ambulance to a hospital that was better equipped to care for babies under 35 week old. (I would like to just take a second to note here… this is still really hard for me to type out, honestly.  Anytime I think about this unknown time in our lives in this amount of detail all of those emotions rush back like it was just yesterday. It was the scariest time for us. We were strictly operating in survival mode.) So many things happened in the next 48 hours that I just can’t describe fully here. Two days later our beautiful baby boy was born healthy (Praise God!) at 4 lbs 1oz.

Right after delivery I had additional complications that were pretty traumatic and it has taken some time to work through everything that happened those 10 days. We had quite the ride, with lots of downs. I was in ICU for 10 days, and our sweet baby boy was in the NICU for 14 days. But you know what? We made it. After some time, we were both physically healthy and well. We serve a good good Father! AMEN?!

But you know what? I was still hurting, I had carried mama guilt that lied to me and told me it was my fault he had to be born early, that we were so lucky that we were ok. Most of the time I thought I was fine, and was just so thankful and so grateful that we were all okay, but some days were harder.

This is where oils changed my life.

Did you know essential oils support our bodies in emotional as well as physical healing? During times of trauma and grief receptor sites are being destroyed within our bodies and oils are forging new pathways in our brains to help healing happen. This stuff is the real deal. I did some research and snagged up the Feelings Kit, all oils that help support our emotional state in a variety of ways and let me tell you I rubbed, huffed, and diffused these babies like they were going out of style. They changed my outlook, my everyday…. they changed me.

One thing I said right when I got my kit was that I would never sell them. No thanks, not me. Well that changed for me once I started realizing what kinds of things they were doing for our family and how many toxic products we could replace. Although,  I don’t really feel that I sell oils… I am passionate about sharing how they are working for us and how everyone can benefit from these little bottles.
